Engineering the Future of Fire Protection

Honeywell is a global technology leader driving innovation across industries that shape the world — from aerospace and industrial automation to energy, sustainability, and smart buildings. With over a century of engineering excellence, Honeywell combines advanced hardware with cybersecure software and scalable SaaS platforms to power the world's digital transformation.

Our mission is to connect people, assets, and processes through intelligent technologies that deliver higher productivity, safety, and sustainability. In aerospace, we enable safer, more autonomous flight; in industry, we optimize operations through automation; in energy and sustainability, we help businesses reduce emissions and embrace circularity; and through Honeywell Building Automation, we make cities and facilities smarter, more resilient, and energy-efficient.

Innovation is in our DNA — and we continue to engineer the future through control, autonomy, and digital intelligence across every sector we touch.

The Fire Safety Industry at a Crossroads

The fire protection industry is undergoing its most significant transformation in decades. Traditional fire safety systems, reliant on manual testing, physical inspections, and paper-based compliance documentation, are no longer adequate for the complex, interconnected buildings of today. As regulatory requirements tighten globally and operational demands intensify, facility managers face an unprecedented challenge: how to ensure continuous fire protection while minimizing disruption, reducing costs, and maintaining verifiable compliance.

The numbers tell the story: In conventional fire alarm systems, technicians spend 70-80% of total testing time manually verifying individual smoke and heat detectors. This labor-intensive process often requires building shutdowns, disrupts critical operations, and carries inherent safety risks — from accessing locked or occupied spaces to climbing ladders in hard-to-reach areas. For hospitals, hotels, data centers, manufacturing facilities, and commercial real estate portfolios, these disruptions translate directly into operational downtime, compromised user experiences, and increased costs.

The industry needs a paradigm shift — from reactive, manual processes to predictive, automated, and connected fire safety. This is where Honeywell's innovation leadership makes the difference.

Introducing Game-Changing Technology: CLSS & Self-Test

At GoTech World 2025, Honeywell will showcased two revolutionary solutions that are redefining fire protection across every major industry:

Connected Life Safety Services (CLSS): Fire Safety in the Cloud

CLSS is Honeywell's cloud-based platform that places connectivity at the heart of fire protection. By digitally connecting fire alarm systems at any location, CLSS provides real-time visibility, streamlined commissioning, and automated compliance reporting — transforming fire safety from a periodic maintenance activity into a continuous, intelligent process.

Key capabilities include:

  • Real-time monitoring of daily events across fire alarm systems, with instant notifications to authorized users

  • Faster commissioning through Bluetooth authentication to fire alarm control panels (FACP), enabling installation, testing, and monitoring from mobile devices

  • Electronic reporting with indisputable records, date-stamped with technician credentials and stored on secure cloud servers

  • Multi-site visibility for portfolio managers overseeing distributed facilities

  • Predictive maintenance support, identifying issues before they escalate into critical failures

CLSS eliminates the need for complicated Excel records, and cumbersome paper filing. With reports generated at the touch of a button and accessible anytime, from anywhere, facility managers gain unprecedented control and transparency over their fire safety infrastructure.

Self-Test Technology: The World's Only Self-Testing Fire Detectors

Honeywell's patented Self-Test technology — winner of the prestigious Edison Innovation Gold Award in Safety & Security — represents a historic breakthrough in fire detection. Self-Test detectors automate the mandatory but previously time-consuming testing process by generating controlled amounts of smoke and heat internally to verify the functionality of both optical and thermal sensors.

How it works:

  • An internal module generates smoke and heat, enabling automatic functional testing of detection chambers

  • Anti-masking technology ensures smoke entry points are clear and not covered

  • A built-in Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) emitter connects detectors to the CLSS app, allowing engineers to locate and visually inspect devices without physical contact

  • Self-Test detectors are fully compatible with standard detector bases, enabling seamless retrofitting into existing systems

The result? Testing that previously required days of manual work, scaffolding, and building disruptions can now be completed automatically, in a fraction of the time, with zero impact on operations.

Transforming Fire Safety Across Industries

The versatility and intelligence of CLSS and Self-Test make them applicable across every sector where fire protection is mission-critical. Here's the single most powerful value proposition for each industry:

Healthcare: Zero Disruption to Patient Care

Testing occurs automatically without evacuating vulnerable patients, halting surgeries, or accessing operating rooms, ICUs, and sterile environments — ensuring continuous protection while maintaining the highest standards of patient safety and medical operations.

Hospitality: Guests Never Know Testing is Happening

Silent, invisible testing during operational hours means zero disruptions to guest experiences, no room access requirements, and no operational downtime — delivering superior safety without compromising service quality or revenue.

Manufacturing: Production Never Stops

Automated testing during normal working hours eliminates line shutdowns, removes safety hazards from accessing dangerous zones, and ensures compliance — maximizing uptime while reducing testing costs by up to 50%.

Data Centers: Protection Without Compromising Uptime

Only the zone being tested goes temporarily offline while the rest of the system remains fully operational, with no physical access to secure areas required — delivering mission-critical fire protection without the downtime risk that costs millions.

Commercial Real Estate: One Platform, Entire Portfolio

Centralized cloud visibility across all properties with automated compliance reporting and zero tenant disruptions — transforming fire safety from a operational burden into a strategic asset that increases property value and tenant satisfaction.

The Honeywell Advantage: Innovation That Protects Lives

What sets Honeywell's fire safety solutions apart is not just technological innovation — it's the integration of cloud connectivity, automation, and intelligent software into systems that have historically been manual and reactive. CLSS and Self-Test represent the convergence of Honeywell's expertise in:

  • IoT and connected systems — leveraging cloud platforms and mobile connectivity

  • Cybersecure software — protecting critical safety data with enterprise-grade security

  • Building automation — integrating fire safety into holistic smart building ecosystems

  • Digital transformation — enabling organizations to modernize legacy systems with future-proof technology

This is fire protection reimagined for the digital age — predictive, automated, verifiable, and designed to protect what matters most: people, assets, and business continuity.

GoTech World 2025

At GoTech World, held on November 11–12 at ROMEXPO Bucharest, Honeywell demonstrated live how CLSS and Self-Test were transforming fire safety across industries.

Facility managers, fire safety consultants, architects, developers, and compliance officers discovered how connected fire protection delivered:

  • Reduced testing time

  • Zero operational disruptions
